The Campaign Against Sanctions, Military and Imperial Interventions (CASMII) abhors and strongly condemns the sudden, unprovoked attacks against Iran by Israel and the United States which started on February 28, 2026. These attacks took place while Iran and the US were indirectly negotiating in Geneva and a few hours after the Omani foreign minister, the mediator of the Iran-US negotiations, stated on CBS’s Face the Nation that Iran had given unprecedented concessions and peace is within reach. The next round of negotiations was scheduled to take place with the technical teams of the two sides in the following week in Vienna. Like the military attack by Israel in June 2025 against Iran, the US and Israel have again used the cover of negotiations to prepare a military attack against Iran.
These illegal attacks began with an unprecedented “decapitation” operation which resulted in the martyrdom of Iran’s sitting head of state, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his wife, daughter, son-in-law and 14-month old granddaughter. Many other officials were targeted and lost their lives. Civilians were viciously targeted resulting in many casualties, including most significantly the slaughter of at least 165 elementary school girls in the city of Minab using three missile attacks. The total civilian death toll has now surpassed 1000 with over 5000 injured as of this writing. Civilian infrastructure including hospitals, airports, banks, government offices and police stations have been heavily targeted. Iran has hit back, launching missiles against Israel and US military assets in the Persian Gulf region. Some of these attacks on Oman and Saudi Arabia have been exposed as Israeli false flag attacks.
As with other wars of choice, US and Israel offered a series of ridiculous excuses for their crimes that no fair-minded court could possibly accept. In the run-up to the war, President Trump pretended he was heeding the call of Iranian protestors, but social unrest had ended over 6 weeks prior to the attacks and contrived armed insurrection by the US and Israeli agents had completely failed. Trump envoy Steve Witkoff asserted without evidence that Iran is “probably a week away from having industrial grade (nuclear) bomb making material” (February 21). Trump further asserted without evidence that Iran “attempted to rebuild their nuclear program and to continue developing long range missiles” that “could soon reach the American homeland” (February 28) while still maintaining that he “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program in June 2025. These assertions were immediately debunked by not just world experts, but assessments by Trump’s own government. However, none of these is in any way justification for starting a war. US and Israel are once again complicit in waging a war of aggression, what the Nuremberg Trials termed “the supreme international crime”.
Instead of condemning the unprovoked Israel attacks, the British prime minister has given the US access to its military base in Cyprus for its war machine, thus siding with the aggressors. France and Greece have now followed the UK in supporting the aggression.
There is no justification. This is an illegal, immoral, unprovoked imperialist war of aggression for the purpose of destroying Iran as an independent political entity. It is waged because Iran refuses to capitulate to the US-led empire and refuses to cease support of the long suffering people of Palestine. In fact, Iran is the only nation state which has meaningfully acted to fulfill its obligations by the Genocide Convention to defend the Palestinians against the genocide committed by Israel and the US since October 2023. For these “crimes”, innocent blood has to be shed by the criminal mafia in Washington and Tel Aviv.
Western corporate media is fully complicit in these crimes. It has long been reduced to functioning as stenographers of the elites in the west. It has been normalizing open violations of international law by Israel and the US without even raising a faint objection. It purposefully misleads by forming fascist and racist narratives that ultimately justify the empire it serves. It is not a free press but an instrument of thought control targeting the public’s minds to normalize the genocide of Palestinians, lawless violent aggression abroad and accept violent repression at home.
It is the responsibility of all people of conscience to work to counter the mental, and increasingly physical, onslaught of the empire. We must resist, organize and educate by any means necessary. We urge all anti-war, anti-racist and social justice organizations around the world to loudly reject and oppose this illegal war of aggression and to unequivocally express their full solidarity with the people of Iran.
